MARIETTA - For the second-straight year, Sarah Gallagher of Canton and Kristine Berger of Statham took home the trophies at the Georgia Senior Women's and Super Senior Women's Championship! The championship was conducted Aug. 19-20 at Indian Hills Country Club.
It was a slow start for Gallagher (pictured in blue) to begin the championship as she was five-over through the first six holes. But the reigning U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Champion quickly found her footing going one-under during her final 12 holes to post a four-over-par 76 to take a five-shot lead going into the final round.
Gallagher (76-74) remained steady to open the final round posting an even par front nine to put herself in position to cruise to another Senior Women's title and her second GSGA title this year (Senior Women's Match Play Championship).
It was a little bit more of an up-and-down back nine for Gallagher with two birdies, three pars and four bogeys, but it was more than enough for her to claim her second victory at the championship in her second year of eligibility.
Much like Gallagher, Berger (pictured in green) used a solid round one to take early control of the Super Senior Women's Championship. The reigning champion fired a two-over-par 74 in the opening round to take a six-shot advantage going into the final 18 holes of action.
An opening double bogey for Berger (74-78) in the final round shrunk her advantage out of the gate, but she settled down over her next 13 holes going two-over to remain in control. Bogeys on her final two holes didn't matter as Berger would go on to capture her second-straight Super Senior Women's title by six shots.
