Mineral Bluff - After four days and seven matches, R.B Clyburn of Cartersville is the 105th Georgia Match Play Champion! The competition took place July 30 - Aug. 2 at Old Toccoa Farm.
The championship began with three rounds of pod play. Players were placed in groups of four, and would play each other in a round robin format with the winner advancing to the match play bracket
.
Clyburn lost his first match in pod play, but battled back to win his second and third matches; securing his spot in a playoff which he won on the first hole. Clyburn defeated James Baker of Johns Creek in 19 holes, and defeated Chase Long 6&4, granting Clyburn a spot in the semifinals.
Clyburn began the day with a victory over Jacob Arnett of Kennesaw, winning the match two-up. Preston Topper of Suwannee won his semi-final match against Finley Burke of Jesup one-up to face Clyburn in the final match. The pair would go back and forth, until Clyburn pulled away, winning the eighth and ninth hole to gain a three-up lead. After seven steady holes, R.B. won the match 4&2, granting him his second straight Georgia Match Play Championship and fourth GSGA title.
