On this Day in 1972, Dewitt Weaver Jr. won the Southeastern Open. A native of Danville, Kentucky, Weaver had already made a name for himself in the world of golf before his Southeastern Open victory; winning the Georgia PGA Championship and the Atlanta Open Twice. After this victory, Weaver began to dominate golf in Georgia, winning the Georgia Open four times and the Georgia PGA Championship two more times.
In addition to his on-course achievements, Weaver made lasting contributions to the game through his work in golf course design and instruction. He was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1998, honoring his lifelong impact on the sport.
