On this day in 1930, Bobby Jones won the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Jones had won the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open Championship's earlier that year and would go on to win The Amateur Championship, completing The Grand Slam in a single calendar year, the only male player to do so. Jones was the inaugural winner of the Georgia Amateur in 1916, which he won at the age of 14. Jones won a total of 13 major championships and competed on five Walker Cup teams. After completing the Grand Slam, Jones retired from golf, focusing on teaching and equipment design. Jones also founded Augusta National Golf Club with his friend and fellow Georgia Golf Hall of Fame member Clifford Roberts. He would be instrumental in creating the Masters Tournament, which would become one of the four major tournaments in men's professional golf. Jones would later establish Peachtree Golf Club, which he co-designed with Robert Trent Jones. Jones was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.
